Sankofa Festival of African Roots
in American Dance

An electrifying dance festival  -- including African dance, clogging, jazz and more in a mix of drumming and blue grass music - will once again take center stage at UMass Amherst June 20-27.

Master teacher and artist Chuck Davis, director of DanceAfrica and the African American Dance Ensemble, will lead a stellar faculty in a weeklong exploration of Cultural Rejuvenation: A Legacy Revealed - culminating in a final concert on Saturday, June 27 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Sankofa Final Dance Concert: "BlueGrass / BrownEarth"

A highly energetic blend of African dance, rhythms, traditional banjo, and bluegrass music, featuring original choreography by Davis and the Sankofa
visiting artists. The performance, rooted in the history of African culture, embraces American traditions to tell the story of Africa's contribution to Bluegrass music - the iconic banjo.
