University Dancers
University Dancers is a group of talented dancers selected from the Five College Dance community. They are featured in their own annual concert in December and tour the Commonwealth in January each year. The repertory includes works choreographed by guest choreographers and members of the Five College Dance Faculty. Each year, in the fall, the master choreographer will set a work on these student dancers.
The University Dancers kicked off The Sankofa Project in December 2007 with a performance of Ron K. Brown's Exodus set to the music of Bob Marley and is a percussive, high-energy work that fuses ballet, hip-hop, West African, and modern movement to share evidence of the world's many cultural perspectives.
Coming up next: The University Dancers will have a one of a kind opportunity to dance WITH Ailey II. George Faison will stage his new work, Movin' On, on the students, preparing them to perform with Ailey II when they visit the Fine Arts Center on October 23, 2008. Movin' On, with music by Betty Carter, is about loosing the shackles of American segregation and stepping forward bravely into a new world.
